Thessaloniki After Dark: Where to Go for Drinks, Music & Dancing

The lights of Thessaloniki across the bay at night, seen from the terrace in Perea

Thessaloniki is a city that starts late.

Dinner easily stretches into the evening, bars fill after midnight, and some of the best nights are less about choosing one venue and more about moving between neighbourhoods, rooftops and clubs as the night unfolds. The city’s official tourism guide highlights Ladadika and Valaoritou as two of its main nightlife districts, with everything from cocktail bars and live music to clubs and electronic nights.

These are the places and areas we would start with.

Ladadika

Best for dinner, drinks and an easy night out

Ladadika is the easiest place to begin if you want atmosphere without planning too much.

The old warehouse district near the port is now packed with tavernas, bars, pubs and clubs, all within a compact pedestrian area (Thessaloniki Travel). It works especially well if you want dinner first and then decide where the night takes you.

Our tip: start around Morichovou or Katouni Square and explore from there.

Valaoritou

Best for late-night bar hopping

Valaoritou feels younger, looser and more alternative than Ladadika.

Former commercial buildings now house bars and music venues covering everything from electronic and indie to jazz, pop and rock — one of the best areas in Thessaloniki for moving from place to place without committing to one venue.

For electronic music

Thessaloniki has a proper electronic scene, but it is very event-driven. The best night often depends on who is playing rather than which club you choose.

The Host

Best for underground electronic music: one of the city’s more established names for house and techno, with an intimate, late-night club atmosphere.

Block33

Best for bigger DJ nights. More of an event venue than a traditional nightclub, but one of the key places to check when a major electronic act is in town, alongside larger concerts and events (Art and Life).

WE

Best for mixed music and larger nights: a flexible cultural and nightlife venue near the university area, hosting electronic events, live music and other larger-format nights.

Our tip: check the programme for your dates. Thessaloniki’s electronic scene is driven by individual events, guest DJs and one-off nights.

For drinks with a view

Sometimes the best way to start the night is above the city.

Bohème · Pylea

Stylish drinks and dining with a more polished atmosphere.

Asteria · Panorama

A relaxed option for sunset drinks with views across Thessaloniki and the Thermaikos Gulf.

Orizontes · Aristotelous Square

Rooftop dining and cocktails above the heart of the city.

More about all three — with photos, drive times and maps — in our restaurant guide.

For a Greek night out

If you want something more local than a conventional club night, look for live Greek music or a bouzoukia-style venue.

These nights tend to start late, run well into the morning and are a very different experience from the cocktail-bar and electronic scenes. The city’s tourism material notes that the western port and old slaughterhouse area is home to some of the larger live-Greek-music venues and clubs.

Our ideal Thessaloniki night

Start with sunset drinks somewhere with a view, head into Ladadika for dinner, move toward Valaoritou later, and check what is happening at The Host, Block33 or WE if you want to keep going.

Do not rush it — Thessaloniki is a late-night city.

The official city guide itself advises visitors not to start too early.

Getting back to Perea: a taxi from the centre takes about 30 minutes. Late at night it is easiest to book one in advance or use a taxi app.
